12 Wonderful Reasons to Spike Some Lemon Into Your H2O

So, many of us already drink lemon water, but how many of us are really familiar with the benefits it offers.
I've been drinking lemon water for as long as I can remember. In fact, I've become so accustomed to it, that regular
water just doesn't do it for me. But it wasn't until about 4 years ago that I truly learned the benefits of drinking lemon water.
Now I will admit, not everyone will be a fan of the tangy taste, but for those of you who don't mind it, you can reap
some pretty awesome rewards from making it part of your daily routine.

Here are 12 awesome (and healthy) reasons to spike your H2O with some lemon power:

  • First and foremost, lemons are packed with nutrients. Lots and lots of it! They contain a rich source of calcium, potassium, vitamin C, magnesium and fiber. Lemon is also known to have medicinal values, as well as antibacterial and therapeutic properties.
  • Helps maintain your immune system by protecting your body from diseases and immune system deficiencies.
  • It also helps fight viral infections such as a soar throat.
  • Lemon is an excellent source of potassium which is great for heart health, as well as brain and nerve function.
  • Lemon juice aids in the production of digestive juices, encourages healthy digestion by loosening and flushing out toxins, and relieves classic symptoms of indigestion and constipation.
  • It also plays the role of a blood purifier (helps detox your blood).
  • The antioxidants in lemon juice are known to help decrease and/or prevent blemishes, wrinkles, scars and age spots.
  • Lemon gives you an energy boost and helps reduce anxiety and depression.
  • Lemons contain pectin fiber which is very beneficial for colon health and helps fight hunger cravings.
  • It helps maintain the pH levels in the body so harmful bacteria (such as UTI's) can't stick around.
  • Lemon helps reduce pain and inflammation in joints and knees as it decreases the uric acid in your body.
  • Helps battle bad breath by combatting the bacteria in your mouth (e.g. gingivitis). It is important to note that lemon juice can ruin the enamel on the teeth when it comes in direct contact. Hence, it is advised to consume it diluted and rinse your mouth thoroughly after drinking lemon juice.
  • It helps clean the liver by balancing the calcium and oxygen levels.

To fully gain the benefits of lemon water, particularly in the morning, it is suggested to drink it warm or at room temperature.
I personally like to begin my mornings with a flavored green tea spiked with a little lemon juice. It starts my day out right!

So try a little lemon in your water and notice the positive changes to your skin, your mood, and your overall health.
You'll thank yourself later!

Cheers, Karina
