Sexy, Geeky, Do-Gooder - Warby Parker Style

Hey guys, so I thought I'd write a short post on my Owen glasses, or rather, my Warby's. You see recently, I've been getting a lot of compliments and questions about where I got my nerdy vintage glasses, and I just couldn't keep this piece of goodness to myself - it would be sacrilege not to share.

the company is called Warby Parker and I dare say it - I've become a die-hard fan.  Aside from having one of the sweetest selections of "nerxy" frames (nerdy & sexy), they're mission & vision is admirable & inspirational. All frames are $95 and for every pair you buy, they donate a pair to someone in need. how altruistically sexy is that??

but wait, i'm not done yet, the company is also environmentally conscious. They are one of the only carbon-neutral eyewear brands in the world.  they also do some other pretty cool stuff - you can post your picture on their site and try on the glasses virtually - geeeniuuusss!!  Furthermore, you  have the option to choose up to 5 frames on their website which they would send to you free of charge and free of shipping, just so you could try them on. it's obvious the company gets it! they're brilliant, they're generous and their customer service is badass. How can you not be a fan.

I wear the Owen style frames. If you have a pair of Warby's feel free to share any pictures or a little bit about your experience. And if any questions, just hit me up....

peace + love + happiness, karina

P.S. Check out the Warby Barker collection for canines.  Seriously, what??  I like their style.... I'm just sayin'.

So clever. My sister Anne created some stamps from our Dreamer's picture taken in Cambodia. Pretty cool stuff.

A perfect Brooklyn afternoon - days like this make me want to live between Bk & Miami

With Katie and Anne - about to eat some of momma's Dominican grub

Family time - I'm in heaven

My second home - the Brooklyn treehouse - Jose & Anne's place in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Last night my parents and I arrived back in NY for a week long family reunion to celebrate my parents 35th wedding anniversary, the re-launch of Trust Art (my brother's business), and my niece Amanda's graduation. It's been a long time coming! Above our some pictures I've shared from our first day...which was absolutely wonderful. We were able to spend some quality time with my brother Jose, my sis-in-law Anne, and her sister Kaity. Best of all, my mom cooked our favorite Dominican meal - pollo guisado. YUM! (I'll always make exceptions for my mom's non-vegan meals). :)
Anyway, I hope you enjoy. Stay tuned as there is so much more to come....

paz y amor, Karina

I wanna Rock - 'Rock of Ages' Movie Premiere

Fans at the movie premiere

I got really lucky last Thursday when my friend Jason was able to score VIP tickets to the premiere screening of 'Rock of Ages', here in Miami Beach. Little did I know that I had underestimated the nostalgic influence of the 80's. Being a diehard 80's fan myself I was excited and shocked to see that people were rocking their 80's digs. I was in total disbelief!! Luckily, I had unconsciously decided  to wear my striped neon skirt. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to buy my Aqua-Net hairspray and perm, tease or crimp my hair  - that would've been TOTALLY RAD!! (If you're feeling like rocking the 80's do, check out this little fun tutorial).

The movie turned out to be fantastic. The whole vibe of the night was pretty incredible. I haven't seen the Broadway show, so can't really compare. But I would definitely recommend. So if you're looking for something fun to do this coming weekend, grab your Cavaricci's, your off the shoulder neon top, neon make-up, neon nail polish, neon.... you get the point, and head over for a really good time of rockin' music and a bitchin' good time!

Rock on,

New friend and wake boarding instructor, Rich.

First time wakeboarding - I'm trying to play it cool, but I was so excited I was doing cart wheels inside my head.

Post-wakeboarding - I'm on a total high and hooked for life

Yaaaayyyy - that's me - wakeboarding... going over wakes one moment and landing on my face the next.

All the credit goes to these guys - Rich and Rick.

My friend Telsys - showing her moves at Hot Wheels Roller Skating Rink

With friends celebrating Telsys birthday at Hot Wheels (this was pre busting my ass 3 times)

Our amazing view... I could never get enough!

With friends at Jeronimo's and The Room - celebrating each other.
The last two weeks have been pretty incredible. I've been spending a significant amount of time with good friends, meeting new ones and rekindling old friendships. I've been more active than ever doing things that I love and have always wanted to do, like playing volleyball on the beach, boxing, watching the basketball playoffs, wakeboarding, riding my cruiser and reading. I've also just recently signed up to play in a flag football league which starts in July - I'm so psyched yet incredibly nervous. With all this, what I realize and remind myself day by day is that the way I feel and the things that develop in my life have so much to do with my attitude. How you see, take and interpret things that you come across in life, is everything. Your attitude can and will change the course of your life. It's important to recognize that in every moment, we have a multitude of options that we can choose to focus on and it's up to us to make the effort to focus on the more lighthearted and beautiful things in life. What will you choose? I'll take a large bowl of happiness, sprinkled with love and a side of laughter.

cheers, me
